Stonewall Resort Launches Global Soap Project

Stonewall Resort, Weston Wal-Mart

to Participate in Global Soap Project

WESTON WV (April 12, 2013) – Stonewall Resort and the Weston Wal-Mart have partnered to support the Global Soap Project, a program that recovers and recycles soap into new bars and distributes them, along with hygiene education, to vulnerable populations around the world, like refugees, orphans, and disaster victims.

Samantha Norris, community outreach director for Stonewall Resort, said, “The Global Soap Project is an extremely worthwhile program that helps the less fortunate and those in need while reducing waste at our property.  Stonewall is proud to participate in this effort and thankful for the assistance and participation of the Weston Wal-Mart.”

Norris said representatives from the Weston Wal-Mart have offered to offset the costs of shipping the recovered soap from Stonewall Resort through their Community Giving Program.

Weston Wal-Mart Store Manager Sherri Workman said, “As the world's largest retailer, our actions have the potential to save our customers money and help ensure a better world for generations to come. We believe that environmental sustainability has become an essential ingredient to doing business responsibly and successfully.”

Norris said Stonewall Resort will collect used soap from the guest rooms and ship it to the Global Soap Project processing center in Georgia.  The organization then recycles the soap in a way that removes impurities, reforms it into new bars and distributes it across the world to communities in need.

“We believe we can supply over 600 pounds of soap to be processed into new product this year alone,” Norris offered.
